I built Dedoom because blocking apps didn't work for me.
Password locks, aggressive timers, grayscale screens β they all tried to solve the same problem by taking control away. But when you're tired, stressed, or bored, another restriction isn't always enough.
I wanted something that created a moment of awareness instead.
Why I Built It
Modern algorithmic feeds are designed to maximize engagement and keep you coming back. Fighting systems built around attention capture with willpower alone is a difficult game.
So I combined two things that normally don't belong together:
When you reflexively open Shorts, Reels, or another distracting feed, Doomie doesn't lock you out or lecture you.
He interrupts you with a meme.
Then comes a simple question:
βBored? Stressed? Pure habit? Or just avoiding something hard?β
That tiny pause is the point.
You can leave. You can continue. The choice stays yours.
What I Believe
- π― Autonomy Over Restriction I don't want Dedoom deciding what you can and can't do. Its job is to create friction and awareness β the decision remains yours.
- π€£ Humor Beats Shame Wasting time happens. I'd rather make you laugh, reset, and move on than punish you with another broken streak.
- π¦ A Companion, Not Big Brother Doomie isn't here to police you. He's the slightly unhinged friend who notices you're about to open Shorts for the 47th time.
- π Local-First Privacy Your attention is your business. Free Dedoom is designed around local-first data processing. Pro can optionally sync limited statistics across devices β not your browsing history or specific URLs.
- πΏ Consistency Over Perfection One bad night shouldn't erase weeks of progress. Dedoom focuses on your overall behavior, not perfect streaks.

Surgical Strikes on Feeds
The internet isn't the enemy.
The infinite scroll is.
I want you to keep the tutorials, research, music, work, and conversations β without getting trapped in the feed.
The Bigger Picture
I didn't build Dedoom to turn anyone into a productivity machine.
Rest matters. Play matters. Sometimes you should absolutely do nothing. β
My goal is simpler:
Help you reclaim the hours you never meant to lose.
When you close your laptop, I want you to know that the time you spent online was time you chose to spend.
Not time an algorithm chose for you.
