Doom Score is a 300โ900 adaptive rating designed around the same basic principle as competitive rating systems like chess Elo:
You don't simply collect points forever. Your score continuously adjusts based on your recent behavior and current rating.
โ๏ธ How the Rating Works
Your Doom Score is calculated from four core inputs:
-
โฑ๏ธ
Screen Time How much time you spend on your device.
-
๐ฏ
Focus Sessions Completed periods of intentional, focused work.
-
๐ฑ
Distraction Time Time spent on your Hitlist โ Shorts, Reels, endless feeds, and other distractions.
-
๐ง
Intentionality Whether you consciously identify why you're opening a distracting app.
Additional behavioral signals, including late-night usage and your Clean Browsing Ratio, also influence your rating.
๐ Why You Don't Just Keep Gaining Points
Doom Score uses diminishing returns.
At a lower rating, positive behavior can produce relatively large gains. As your rating gets higher, the same behavior produces a progressively smaller increase.
For example:
| Current Score | Completing a Focus Session |
|---|---|
| 350 | Large improvement |
| 500 | Moderate improvement |
| 650 | Smaller improvement |
| 750 | Small improvement |
| 850 | Very difficult to climb |
This prevents someone from reaching 900 simply by farming Focus Sessions.
๐งฎ The Core Model
Conceptually, each behavioral event produces a rating adjustment:
New Doom Score = Current Score + Behavioral Adjustment ร Difficulty Factor
The Difficulty Factor decreases as your rating increases.
So:
-
๐ข
Low Score โ Easier to recover
-
๐ก
Mid Score โ Progress requires consistency
-
๐ด
High Score โ Every improvement is harder-earned
Negative behavior can also reduce your rating, meaning a high score isn't something you can permanently bank and forget about.
What Moves Your Rating?
๐ The 900 Club
750+ isn't simply a reward for accumulating enough points.
It's a signal that you've maintained consistently strong attention habits at a rating where further improvement becomes increasingly difficult.
900 = theoretical ceiling. Getting there should be rare.
