01 Our Local-First Approach
Dedoom is designed around a Local-First architecture.
Free Dedoom
The Free version is designed to process browsing-related intervention data directly on your device.
Your Hitlist, intervention activity, intention responses, Doom Score, and related behavioral information are designed to remain locally stored in your browser rather than being transmitted to Dedoom's servers.
We do not sell or rent your browsing history, visited URLs, search queries, or personal interactions.
Pro Cloud Sync
Dedoom Pro may offer optional Cloud Sync.
When you enable Cloud Sync, Dedoom synchronizes the limited information necessary to provide features such as:
- Cross-device statistics
- Long-term focus history
- Doom Score history
- Duo Pass functionality
Specific URLs and browsing history are not included in Cloud Sync payloads.
Cloud Sync is designed to synchronize your Dedoom statistics, not create a record of the websites you visit.
02 Information We Handle
We distinguish between information stored locally on your device and information associated with a Dedoom account.
A. Local Device Data
Depending on the features you use, Dedoom may store locally:
- Hitlist configuration
- Intervention timestamps
- Intention responses
- Doom Score calculations
- Focus-session information
- Activity and habit statistics
- Meme and humor-mode preferences
- Doomie preferences
- Extension settings
- Local history and other Dedoom configuration data
This information is designed to remain on your device unless you explicitly enable a feature that synchronizes applicable information.
B. Account Information
If you create a Dedoom account, we may process information such as:
- Email address
- Account identifier
- Authentication information
- Subscription status
- Subscription identifier
- Account preferences
- Pro entitlement information
We use this information to authenticate your account, provide Pro functionality, manage your subscription, and maintain account security.
C. Cloud-Synchronized Information
If you explicitly enable Cloud Sync, we may synchronize information such as:
- Focus minutes
- Doom Score
- Habit statistics
- Historical Dedoom statistics
- Duo Pass / Buddy status
- Other numerical metrics necessary to provide the selected synchronization features
We do not synchronize specific URLs or browsing history through Cloud Sync.
03 How We Use Information
We process information only for purposes reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and improve Dedoom.
| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address | Account authentication and account-related communication |
| Account identifier | Maintaining your Dedoom account |
| Subscription information | Verifying and providing Pro access |
| Payment/transaction information | Processing subscriptions and refunds through our payment provider |
| Focus metrics | Providing statistics and optional cross-device synchronization |
| Doom Score | Providing your score and, where enabled, historical score data |
| Habit statistics | Providing analytics and historical views |
| Duo Pass information | Providing accountability and comparison features |
| Local Hitlist | Running interventions on your device |
| Intention responses | Providing local reflection and behavioral feedback |
| Extension settings | Maintaining your chosen Dedoom configuration |
We do not use your browsing history or visited URLs for advertising.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use browsing activity collected by Dedoom to build advertising profiles.
04 Chrome Extension Permissions
Dedoom requests browser permissions necessary to provide its intervention, blocking, scheduling, and feed-filtering functionality.
The exact permissions may change as Dedoom evolves.
| Permission | Why Dedoom Needs It |
|---|---|
storage |
Stores Dedoom settings, Hitlists, statistics, and other local data |
declarativeNetRequest |
Applies supported network-level blocking or redirect rules |
tabs / activeTab |
Obtains relevant current-page information needed for interventions |
alarms |
Supports scheduled interventions and local timers |
scripting |
Enables supported page-level feed filtering where required |
Dedoom does not intentionally transmit your browsing history or visited URLs to its servers for advertising or analytics.
The actual permissions requested by the published extension will always be determined by the current Chrome extension manifest.
05 Pro Cloud Sync & Duo Pass
Cloud Sync is an optional Pro feature.
When enabled, Dedoom may synchronize limited information such as:
- Focus minutes
- Doom Score
- Habit statistics
- Historical statistics
- Account information
- Duo Pass / Buddy status
No URL Sync
Specific URLs and browsing history are not included in Cloud Sync payloads.
For example, Cloud Sync may synchronize:
+45 focus points today
but does not synchronize:
youtube.com/watch?v=... or a list of websites you visited.
Duo Pass
Where available, Duo Pass allows a Pro subscriber to invite an accountability partner.
Each participant maintains their own account and login credentials.
Duo functionality is designed to expose only the information necessary for the applicable accountability features.
A Buddy does not receive access to your browsing history, Hitlist, visited URLs, or private account information through Dedoom.
Cloud Sync Security
Data transmitted between Dedoom and its cloud services is encrypted in transit using TLS.
Cloud-stored information is protected using the security controls provided by our infrastructure providers.
Dedoom does not currently claim that Cloud Sync is end-to-end encrypted.
06 Third-Party Services
Dedoom uses a limited number of third-party services necessary to operate the Service.
The specific providers may change as the product develops.
Payment Processing
Dedoom uses Stripe or another designated payment provider to process Pro subscriptions.
Dedoom does not store full payment-card numbers or CVV/security codes.
Payment and transaction information may be processed by the payment provider according to its own privacy policy.
Authentication & Cloud Infrastructure
Dedoom may use third-party authentication and cloud infrastructure providers to provide account and Cloud Sync functionality.
Before Cloud Sync launches, the specific providers used by Dedoom will be identified here together with links to their applicable privacy documentation.
Chrome Web Store
The Google Chrome Web Store distributes the Dedoom extension and provides extension updates.
Google may process information according to its own privacy policies.
Third-Party Websites
Dedoom interacts with third-party websites such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok to provide applicable blocking and feed-filtering functionality.
Dedoom does not control how those third parties process information when you use their services.
Your use of those services remains subject to their respective privacy policies and terms.
07 Cookies & Analytics
Dedoom Extension
The Dedoom extension is designed to operate without third-party advertising trackers or behavioral advertising SDKs.
We do not intentionally embed:
- Facebook Pixel
- Google AdSense
- Advertising SDKs
- Data-broker SDKs
- Cross-site advertising trackers
into the Dedoom extension.
Website
If the Dedoom website uses cookies, analytics, or similar technologies, the specific technologies and purposes should be disclosed at or before collection where required by applicable law.
We will not use analytics to collect or reconstruct your Dedoom browsing history.
08 Data Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including providing the Service, maintaining accounts, processing subscriptions, preventing fraud and abuse, resolving disputes, and complying with legal obligations.
Free Users
Free-user behavioral data is designed to remain locally stored on the user's device.
The Free version may provide a rolling history according to the current Dedoom product configuration.
Pro Users
Pro users may receive longer historical statistics through Cloud Sync according to the Pro plan and features available at the time.
Cloud-synchronized information does not constitute a permanent archive of browsing history.
Specific URLs and browsing history are not stored as part of Dedoom Cloud Sync.
09 Data Deletion
Local Data
You can delete supported local Dedoom data using the Reset All Data controls provided within the extension.
Where available, you may also export supported local data before deleting it.
Cloud Data
If you use Pro Cloud Sync, you may request deletion of your cloud-synchronized Dedoom information through the available account controls or our Contact Us form.
Deletion requests may be subject to reasonable identity verification where necessary to protect your account.
Some information may need to be retained where required by law or reasonably necessary to:
- Complete a transaction
- Maintain financial or tax records
- Prevent fraud or abuse
- Resolve disputes
- Establish or defend legal claims
- Comply with legal obligations
Deleting cloud data does not necessarily cancel an active subscription. Subscription cancellation is handled separately through the applicable billing controls.
10 Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information handled by Dedoom.
These measures may include:
- Encryption of data transmitted between the extension and our services using TLS
- Access controls for cloud infrastructure
- Authentication controls
- Encryption or equivalent security protections for stored cloud information provided by our infrastructure providers
- Minimization of the information transmitted from the extension
No internet transmission, software system, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
